At the northern tip of Fremont, south and east of Union City and north of the Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area sits one of Fremont’s most popular districts, Niles. Niles Schools

The public school students who live in Niles attend schools administered by the Fremont Union School District and attend the following schools:

• Niles Elementary School – located within Niles, this school serves slightly more than 600 students in grades Kindergarten through 6.
• Vallejo Mill Elementary School – serves the public school elementary students who live in east Niles. Don’t let this school’s low ranking scare you away from it. Since 2010, students here have managed to raise the average standardized test score more than 20.5 points. It’s definitely an improving school.
• Centerville Junior High School – serves nearly 1,000 students in grades 7 and 8. The school is located about 10 minutes south of Niles.
• Washington High School – Another improving school, Washington students raised the school’s standardized test score average 27 points between 2013 and 2016.

Shopping, dining and recreation in Niles

Niles should probably change its name to the “Shopping, dining and recreation capital of Fremont.” Antiquers will go nuts here, with more than 15 antique shops.

Do you want to get pretty? You’ll find yoga studios, hair designers and nail salons galore in Niles. For the home – designers, landscapers, flooring companies, florists, and glaziers. Professional services abound as well, with lawyers, accountants, insurance agents and the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and Washington Hospital Healthcare System.

You’ll find plenty of opportunities to dine out, especially along Niles Blvd. From pizza, breakfast, and brunch to a lovely French restaurant, amazing taco food trucks and more, you’ll never go hungry in Niles.

Speaking of food, do make a trip to the weekly Niles Farmers Market a tradition. It’s open every Saturday, year ‘round, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

When you buy a home in Niles, you’ll be invited to the many annual events in the area. Some of the more popular include the Niles Dog Show, where your dog doesn’t need a pedigree to win prizes. The Sunday Summer Concert Series is a favorite as well. Niles offers a large variety of home styles of various ages. The largest share of homes (32 percent) was built in the 1980s and 1990s. About 21 percent were constructed in the 1960s and 70s. You will find a small number of vintage, pre-1940 homes and about 18 percent of Niles housing stock is rather new, built from 2000 to the present.

Nearly 56 percent of the homes here are owner-occupied. The median price hovers right around $900,000. Remember, this price represents the mid-point of the range; half of the homes are priced less than this and half are priced higher.
