EVERGREEN
About Evergreen
San Jose’s foothills once provided the launching pad for gliding experiments undertaken by John J. Montgomery, an aeronautics pioneer. Today, they act as a gorgeous backdrop to the homes for sale in the city’s Evergreen neighborhood. Read on to become better acquainted with one of San Jose’s favorite neighborhoods.
Schools
The Evergreen Elementary and East Side Union High School Districts serve the public school students. There are two schools within neighborhood boundaries:
Evergreen Elementary
Designated a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School, Evergreen Elementary serves 788 students in grades Kindergarten through 6. Evergreen offers a variety of before- and after-school programs and clubs, including a chess club, robotics, math Olympiad and others.
In 2016, Evergreen Elementary School ranked better than nearly 96 percent of elementary schools in California. In fact, the school’s 6th graders handily bested both the district and the state’s average on both the ELA/Literacy and math sections of the Smarter Balance Assessment tests.
Evergreen Valley High School
The area high school serves students in grades 9 through 12. It offers 19 Advanced Placement courses (for college credit) and an additional 30 courses at the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education Center.
Students enjoy the varied and robust athletics program along with football, volleyball, basketball, water polo and others. Extra-curricular programs include orchestra, band, choir, visual arts, drama, speech, computer science, debate, and business. In all, the school offers more than 100 clubs.
Shopping, dining and Recreation
Evergreen residents don’t have far to go shopping. With Eastridge Center right here in the neighborhood, they enjoy shopping among the many major retailers, taking advantage of the handy location of their favorites services (hair stylists, banks and more) and grabbing a bite to eat. The charming Evergreen Village Square offers yet more shopping as well as cafes and services.
Golfers will love living in here because of its close proximity to three golf courses, the Silver Creek Valley Country Club, Villages Golf and Country Club and The Ranch Golf Club.
Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy Joseph D. Grant Park, the largest regional park in Santa Clara County. Located east of the Evergreen neighborhood, you’ll find nearly 11,000 acres in which to hike, ride your horse, mountain bike, fish and more. Bring the dog, because they are allowed on the 51-mile trail system as well as the campgrounds and picnic areas (on a 6-foot leash).
