CENTRAL SAN JOSE

Ah, the living is easy in Central San Jose. From the ease of getting around to the variety of neighborhoods and the long list of amenities, the community is worth a spot on your home-shopping list.

Schools

Several school districts serve the public school students who live in Central San Jose, but San Jose Unified is the primary district. Most students attend Hoover or Burnett Middle Schools.
Students who live in the neighborhoods in Central San Jose’s eastern section are assigned to schools administered by East Side Union High School District or the Franklin-McKinley School District.
Other districts serving the area include Campbell Unified High School District and the Luther Burbank School District.
Of these, Campbell UHSD is the highest rated, ranked 125 of California’s 865 public school districts.
Catholic schools include St. Leo the Great, serving students in Pre-K through grade 8 and St. Martin de Tours, for students in grades K through 8. Both schools are located in the Rose Garden neighborhood.
Presentation High School, located in the Willow Glen neighborhood, is a private Catholic college preparatory school for girls with an astounding record: 100 percent of the school’s graduates go on to college.
Central San Jose is also home to a Catholic boys’ school, Bellarmine College Preparatory.
A charter high school in Central San Jose, Downtown College Prep, ranked 36 on U.S. News and World Report’s list of 2,000 high schools in California.
San Jose State University’s East Campus is also located in Central San Jose.

Shopping, Dining, Entertainment and Recreation

The beauty of living here lies not only in the massive amount of shopping, dining, entertainment, and recreation available, but that public transportation in the area offers quick getaways to nearby areas as well as connecting to Santa Cruz.
With Google’s plans to “build a massive transit-centered village” in the area, according to The Mercury News, expect a renewal and reshaping of the area, and for even more amenities to crop up over the next decade.
For now, however, residents of Central San Jose enjoy attending Sharks’ games at SAP Center, hanging out at the Municipal Rose Garden, taking the kids to Happy Hollow Park and Zoo or the Children’s Discovery Museum, taking in a baseball game at San Jose Municipal Stadium or shopping and dining to their hearts’ content in Downtown San Jose.
Then, there’s the amazing Japantown, with a farmers market, fabulous restaurants (mmm, hand-made tofu!) and plenty of festivals.

Homes in Central San Jose

Rose Garden and Willow Glen are two of the most popular neighborhoods. The former offers character homes built in 1939 or earlier as well as more contemporary homes. Willow Glen’s homes are slightly newer, with many built between 1940 and 1969.
Of course, each of Central San Jose’s neighborhoods has something to offer the homebuyer, from modern condos starting in the high $400,000s to circa-1937 single-family homes priced in the high $600,000s to stunning, contemporary estates priced at nearly $5 million.
