BERRYESSA

Located in northeast San Jose, Berryessa began civic life as a farming community, famous for its high-quality apricot, peach, prune, cherry and walnut crops. Today, it’s one of the city’s fastest-growing communities. Known as North Valley by locals – or NV for short – isn’t it time you got to know this gem in San Jose’s crown?

Getting Around

By 2018, the Berryessa BART Station will serve the mass transit needs of Berryessa residents. The trip to San Francisco will take about 60 minutes. The community is also home to a VTA bus transit center with express bus service to downtown San Jose. Residents also have easy freeway access to both US 101 and I-680.

Berryessa Schools

The Berryessa Union School District serves the 8,100 Kindergarten through 8th-grade public school students who live here. The district employs more than 800 at its 10 elementary schools and three middle schools.
Northwood Elementary is the highest ranked elementary school in the district, according to SchoolDigger.com. Ranked 441 of California’s 5,621 elementary schools, Northwood students increased their average standardized test score by more than 15 percent between 2012 and 2016.
Sierramont Middle School is ranked 214 of California’s 2,472 public middle schools. In 2016, students here outperformed 91.3 percent of middle school students in California, with an average standardized test score of 90.67.
East Side Union High School Districts serves the students for high school.

Berryessa amenities

The most popular event in Berryessa is the annual Art & Wine Festival. Held in May at Penitencia Creek Park, folks shop among the up-to 150 artists on site, enjoy food, live entertainment and more.
Berryessa offers a small farmers market, popular with residents. It’s open on Saturdays, year ‘round.
The 13,700 square-foot Berryessa Community Center serves residents with classes for both adults and children, recreation for older residents, after-school programs for kids, sports leagues and more.
When residents want to get outdoors, Penetencia Creek Trail is nearby. Here, they bike hike, run and walk the dog. The little ones enjoy time at Cataldi Park, which also offers soccer fields and tennis courts.

Homes in Berryessa

Berryessa is a popular community for homebuyers seeking more affordable housing, a shorter commute to North San Jose and decent schools.
You’ll find plenty of townhomes for sale in the area and some of them are quite new, built within the past several years.
Berryessa’s least expensive homes are mobile homes, frequently priced in the mid- $100,000s. Townhomes start at around $650,000 and single-family homes at around $700,000.
The most expensive homes for sale in Berryessa include lots of acreages, privacy, and top-of-the-line amenities. Prices for these homes exceed $2.5 million.
While the community’s boundaries are a challenge to pin down, you’ll find Berryessa roughly east of the 880 and west of the Sierra Vista Open Space Reserve, between Landess Ave. and Berryessa Rd.
