Many neighborhoods associations claim that their communities are “highly sought after,” and promise tree-lined streets and a tight-knit community. Many fail to live up to the hype. But not Cherry Chase in west Sunnyvale.

Public school students in Cherry Chase attend the following schools:

Cherry Chase Elementary – Administered by the Sunnyvale School District, Cherry Chase Elementary serves about 850 students in grades K through 5. Of California’s 5,621 public elementary schools, rankings site SchoolDigger.com places Cherry Chase at 149.

The school’s third, fourth and fifth graders handily bested both the district and state average scores on the math, ELA Literacy and science portions of the Smarter Balanced Assessment tests. In 2016, fifth graders did especially well in science, with an average score of 96. The district’s average score was 69 while the states were 54.

Sunnyvale Middle School – Another highly-rated school, Sunnyvale Middle School is ranked 300 of California’s 2,472 public middle schools. Between 2012 and 2015, students here increased the school’s average standardized test scores by nearly 11.5 points.
Homestead High School – Located in Cupertino, parents across Santa Clara County clamor to get their children into Homestead High. Ranked 60 of 2,044 public high schools in the state, Homestead is recognized as both a California Distinguished School and a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School.

You’ll also find several private schools in Cherry Chase, including Community First, serving infants, pre-school and elementary children and Stratford (Sunnyvale De Anza campus), a private pre-school and elementary school.

Shopping, dining and recreation in Cherry Chase

Located in northwest Cherry Chase, the Cherry Chase Shopping Center is small but offers lots of conveniences to area residents. This includes a Safeway, pizza outlet, bank, dry cleaner, nail salon, hair salon, and restaurants. In fact, if you’re a sushi fan, stop in at Hanamaru.

Cherry Chase has no shortage of outdoor recreation amenities. Two parks, De Anza and Mango, offer residents a wealth of ways to get outdoors and have fun. Shoot some hoops, pitch some horseshoes, skate, picnic or let the kids have a blast at the Aztec themed, 9.4-acre De Anza Park.

Mango Park, located in east Cherry Chase, offers lighted tennis courts, a track and soccer fields.

Cherry Chase homes

You’ll find about 2,500 homes in Cherry Chase, built primarily between 1950 and 1979. Styles range from iconic Eichlers to California ranchers and even some townhouses. Most homes in Cherry Chase have three or four bedrooms and nearly 56 percent are owner-occupied.
