Irvington schools

Public school students in Irvington are assigned to schools administered by the Fremont Unified School District. The district serves about 34,000 students total, in grades Kindergarten through 12. The following three schools serve Irvington:

  • N. Hirsch Elementary School – Serves about 540 students in grades Kindergarten through 6. Hirsch is an improving school where students managed to increase the average standardized test score nearly 14.5 points between 2012 and 2016.

 

  • John M. Horner Junior High School – Serves about 1,030 students in grades 7 and 8. Horner is a high-performing junior high school, ranked 89 of 2,472 public junior high schools in California. Students here perform better than 96.4 percent of all of the state’s junior highs.

 

  • Irvington High School – A public magnet school, Irvington High serves 2,248 students in grades 9 through 12. An excellent school, it ranks 79 of California’s 2,044 public high schools. Since 2011, Irvington students have worked hard to increase the school’s average standardized test scores nearly 18 points.

 

Shopping, dining and recreation in Irvington

The Fremont Center offers ample errand-running opportunities with a bank, liquor store and lots of small retailers and services. Across the street, you’ll find a furniture store, auto mechanic and more. The intersection of Washington and Union offers yet more shopping and dining.

Eateries along Fremont Blvd. include an Indian cuisine vegetarian restaurant and a café that promises “South Asian spins on American fast food,” as well as a spot for yummy Halal Indian and Pakistani food.

The 450-acre Central Park and Lake Elizabeth are located just over Irvington’s northern border, providing residents the Aqua Adventure Water Park, the Fremont Skate Park, a dog park and more.

The 80-acre Lake Elizabeth offers even more fun for Irvington residents with a 2-mile pedestrian walkway around it, fishing, boat rentals and launches and more.
